Heritage Breeds?

As Jerry Seinfeld would say, “What’s the deal with heritage breeds?”

There are Heritage varieties of vegetables. There are Heritage breed pigs, and Heritage chickens, and Heritage sheep, and Heritage varieties of garden weeds for the truly nostalgic.

So what’s wrong with the ‘Contemporary’ varieties and breeds?

Well, apparently the pigs get sunburned, the chickens get so big so fast that they often keel over dead from heart attacks, and the sheep don’t in fact have legs – that way industrial sheep farmers don’t have to worry about the little buggers getting away!

Smart. But terribly disturbing.
